The basic designs of barriers like these are pretty simple. Its a simple fireplace mesh with some steel support rods. While the metal may heat up somewhat, its much cooler than the stove itself. These are usually designed to block three sides on the stoves and are usually about 30 inches high. Check the dimensions to make sure it will fit your stove and hearth area. It will have additional steel pieces to reinforce itself against accidental opening. Most wood stove screens will run a little over $100 new. Many manufacturers, such as Vermont Castings, have their own Fireplace hearths may also have a grate or fence like setups around the fireplace or heating area.
