The cool touch spring handle has a cam-lock latch. Particularly noteworthy is the built-in damper/collar with 6" flue. When it comes to wood stoves and heating, maximum heat delivery is reliable, thanks to its all cast iron construction. It's designed to give better heat radiation. The fire should be built directly on the bottom of the fire box. This wood stove is not rated for a grate, and one should not be used.

There's no stove pipe included when you buy the stove. Items that are included are the installation manual, boxwood stove, cooking lid, lid lifter, 4 legs, an attachable hearth, and a hardware bag. It is fully assembled except for the legs and damper collar. This wood stove is not to be installed in mobile homes, manufactured homes, trailers, or tents.

Consumer Reviews:

Consumers like using it in their hunting cabin, woodshop, small house, and greenhouse. They like the style, cooking area on top, and the quality.

Consumers don't like the lack of warning about the protective oil on the cast iron. The first few times the wood stove was used, the oil burned off, resulting in a smoky, stinky room.

Pros (+)

  • Ideal for heating small spaces
  • Cooking spot ideal for heating water or soup
  • Like the standard 6" flue size

Cons (-)

  • No thermostat control; can get too hot
  • Cannot be used in mobile homes (safety factor)

The stove ranges in price from $150 to $250. People who would find this product useful include those with small rooms that need heated, such as unattached garages, cabins, and workshops. Consumers living in cold weather areas that have an easily accessible supply of available firewood can save heating expenses by installing this wood stove.  A full enameled cast iron tea kettle on the wood stove will keep humidity in the air. Being able to accept log lengths of 20 inches is one of the best features of the Vogelzang BX22.
