Ecofan
The Ecofan is a great innovation in wood stove fan technology. It combines the ideals of a wood stove blower, but it is eco-friendly, hence the name. Consider adding it to your setup. This product was added as a way for wood heating units to easily and economically circulate the warm air throughout the whole house. Obviously, one of the advantanges of a wood stove is that it is "off the grid" and independent of electricity. Adding powered fans and blowers forces you to have your heater located near an outlet and snake cords all over the house. In addition, if the power goes out, there goes your air circulation. Plus, as a mechanical device, over time the motors can burn out. Not what you want happening in a January blizzard! The Ecofan was designed with these issues in mind. It uses the ambient heat of your stove to power itself, no cords are necessary. As long as the unit is operating, your fan will blow. Blackouts or power issues will not affect it. When you place it on your stove, it uses the heat difference between the stove surface and the surrounding air to create an electrical differential. This is what actually powers the fan.
