Wood Cook Stoves

Many wood cook stoves available today are designed and modeled after antique models. These cook stoves are larger than electric or gas ranges. They typically come with a firebox, a wood loader, and an oven. Most of them do not have burners like we are accustomed to seeing because the entire surface is warmed by the fire. This allows for more pans to be used at a time, or for larger skillets. Unfortunately, the heat is not always distributed evenly, and so the user must become adept at moving the pots and pans around the surface of the wood cook stove to compensate for the random hot and cool spots.

Most cook stoves will work as cooking units and space heaters. They were originally designed to pull double-duty, so antique models can be a powerful heater. Newer models that are taken from older designs will have the same effect. These stoves can also be very large or unwieldy. Before purchasing a wood cook stove, be sure that it will suit your kitchen and your lifestyle.
