Harman Accentra

The Harman Accentra comes in a pellet stove and an insert. Its a cast iron design that puts out quite a bit of power. Its rated to heat up to 1400 sq. ft but I've heard several reports of larger houses being heat easily with the help of some circulators. The Accentra comes with a 5-year warranty.

Prices are going to vary based on your dealer and the time of year obviously. I've seen prices from about $2100 to $2400. 25% of retail isn't uncommon. Installation costs will vary depending on the complexity. Consider getting the track system if you are buying the insert. It allows for much easier maintenance.

A few years back around the 2008 and 2009 there were some complaints about bad ignitors with these units. Harman offered a replacement which seemed to fix most of the issues. However, its still important to clean the ignitor every couple of weeks or so. Used canned air to blow through the holes and use a vacuum to clear out underneath the burn pot.

Some people complain that the blowers can be noisy when set to "high". However, unless you're needing to heat to 80+ degrees the most you'll need with this unit is usually medium.

One other notable difference on the Accentra and other Harman units is the fact that they don't have a standard thermostat. They use what's called a tiny sensing probe. The difference is that it connects directly to the computer to control temperature. Normally these are vary reliable but occassionally they do fail and need to be replaced. If so, keep in mind that you may also need to have the computer reset as well so it can "read" the data from the probe.
