Alaska Stove

The Alaska Stove Company is actually based in Pennsylvania (makes sense right?). They've been making quality wood heaters at their plant since the mid-1980s. Some people called them a knockoff of the Fisher brand.

Although they are a smaller company compared to a Vermont Castings or Vogelzang, they have kept up with technology and have many cutting edge features. Their products feature a revolutionary glass cleaning system that clears as it heats. They also offer a Power Venter which allows you to install their heaters where a chimney may not be feasible. The Power Venter then actively blasts the smoke and gas out through a duct through the wall to the outside. In our opinion, this should be a last choice option as a chimney is the best way to vent. The issue with a powered venter is that it takes electricity to run, so no power, no vent. Also, the fumes and smoke are not directed straight up, as in a chimney, and can get backed up. Be sure to install a gas alarm if doing so.

They do have an outstanding warranty program, with ten years on the stove itself. The powered systems and pellet feed get one and two year warranties, respectively.

They offer coal, wood, and oil options. The wood models include the 1500, 1600, and 2500.

1500- Versatile, can be made into an insert or zero clearance addition. Can heat up to 2000sq. ft.

1600- You'll see these with prices starting around $2100. A little bigger than the 1500

2500- The catalytic model, will heat up to 2500 sq. ft. Can also be used as an insert

The hand-fired coal model is called the Kodiak.
